    Sean Albert and Pablo Soto were in town the middle of December for the opening of Houston Center for Contemporary Craft's Hot Glass, Cool Collections exhibition. Their lively demonstrations at Houston Studio Glass were a real crowd pleaser. Sean will be back in town February 2009 for his show at Peel Gallery. Pablo's work is on display at HCCC through March.

    We hardly need be reminded that the MFAH is a community treasure, there to broaden our visual experience, walk us through ancient cultures, and enrich our lives. This year OUR museum offers a multifaceted exposure to glass.

    Color Into Light:
    Selections from the MFAH Collection

    thru April 5, 2009
    An ongoing exhibit "demonstrating how color and light become animating forces for successive generations of the international avant-garde". Complimented by contemporary glass from the museum's collection by David Huchthausen, Thomas Patti, Alfredo Barbini, Ales Vasicek, Laura Diaz de Santillana, Stanislav Libensky, and Jaroslava Brychtova.

    Pioneers of Contemporary Glass:
    Highlights from the Barbara and Dennis
    DuBois Collection

    March 7  -  July 26, 2009
    Dennis and Barbara DuBois have assembled a collection of contemporary glass masterworks. This exhibition will highlight 30 international works. A full color catalog with introduction by Cindi Strauss, MFAH curator of modern and contemporary decorative arts and design, will accompany the exhibition. Other pieces from the Dubois collection will also be on view in the American Galleries and Asian Galleries.

    Afghanistan: Hidden Treasures
    from the National Museum, Kabul

    March 1  -  May 17, 2009
    The exhibition includes fine examples of blown, carved and painted glass from the 1st century AD, excavated from Begram, an ancient city on the Silk Road trade route.
